não me trates como um rei!
Se o sorriso (e o riso) identifica, normalmente, boa disposição e agrado, pode também expressar embaraço, agradecimento por algum cumprimento gentil ou, mesmo, cumplicidade com alguém. A visão comedida de parte da dentição acompanha este gesto facial.
O açúcar, no entanto, foi uma descoberta ruinosa para as dentições europeias das classes mais abastadas. Já Quevedo falava, num soneto, da sua "boca saqueada"... Mas o caso de Luís XIV (1638-1715), de França, foi bem mais grave, radical e doloroso.
O Rei Sol era muito guloso e a sua dentição ressentiu-se, precocemente. Aos 47 anos foram-lhe arrancados os últimos dentes, daí que grande parte da sua iconografia o represente de lábios (e maxilares) bastante cerrados. Acontece que as últimas extracções correram mal e, com os dentes, veio uma parte do maxilar (superior?). E Luís XIV sempre que bebia ou gargarejava, uma boa parte do líquido saía-lhe pelo nariz.
Desesperado com a situação, o rei quis ser operado para lhe colocarem uma espécie de "soldadura" que fechasse esse orífício da cavidade bucal. Foi encarregado da operação o físico Antoine Daquin (1620-1696). Antes de ser operado, Luís XIV ordenou, peremptório, ao médico: "Eu quero ficar curado, por isso não me trates como um rei!" A operação terá sido bem sucedida.
